The entire week a wonderful balance of stress, joy, calm, laughter, tears and love!
The few days leading up to mom’s wedding were crazy and stressful… but worth it all!
My flight to Texas was the second roughest flight that I have ever been on. The weather was insane, but my flight was just late enough in the evening to miss out on all of the flight cancellations in Texas. I made it and was only about one hour delayed.
Mom and Christiana picked me up from the airport which made for some great bonding time!
The wedding was Thursday and I flew in Tuesday night so all day Wednesday I got to hang out with Sarah, Britt and Tonya… which was just a fabulous as ever.
I got to hang out with mawmaw for a bit wednesday night and that was long over-due and very needed. And my favorite memories from the week was the time I spent with my beautiful sisters. My loves forthem grows each and every day and they are all a very intricate and vital part of who I am.
The wedding day was the perfect mixture of stress, butterflies, joy and laughter.
The wedding itself was just perfectly beautiful! It could not have been any more precious.
After the wedding me, Courtney, Dusty, Christiana and Kaitlyn loaded up in the 2 door Honda Civic and headed to Houston to drop off the girls and then me and Court and Dusty left from Houston and drove through the night to Dallas. When we dropped of the girls in Houston we did get to see dad and Deb for a few minutes at a McDonalds. We shared updates and laughs and stories over some mcnuggets and diet dr. pepper and then us girls had to get on the road quick! We got in Dallas and in bed at about 5:00 a.m. and left for the airport at 7:15 a.m. on the dot! And yes I said “we!” Courtney and Dusty were already planning a visit up here to see me this weekend, so I just booked my return flight with them out of Dallas. By the time we landed here in the mid-west, we were EXHAUSTED!
We landed in St. Louis a little before noon. Josh and Seth picked us up and had quite a welcome home party for us… between the kazoos, pink streamers lining the roof of the car, red balloons, party hats, animal sunglasses, cheesy party music and house slippers for each of us… it was almost too much to handle.
The weekend with Courtney and Dusty up here was great. We spent most of our time hanging out and laughing with the boys. I have to say that the friends that I have now are definitely the most funny and most entertaining people that I have ever been around my entire life.
Even though I missed practice Thursday night, I was still scheduled to lead worship and sing a special at church on Sunday. Kay stood in for me at practice and the band did an amazing job… like I knew that they would. I had practiced everything on my own without the band and felt confident in the health of my vocal chords.
Saturday night we were showing everyone the new church building that will be opening on April 6 and after the tour we were just all standing around the coffee shop area deciding where to head next. Well, I’m not that great at “just standing around” and neither is my husband, so me and Seth were busting out some killer ballet steps and right in the middle of what seemed to be a perfect pirouette… my ankle rolled, snapped and popped, and I went tumbling down to the ground in excruciating pain. Couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, could hardly breathe… After a few second of making fun of me everyone finally realized that I was seriously hurt and decided to come to my aid. My ankle was huge, turning a nice shade of purple and my toes started to resemble giant grapes. After the last few months and my adventures in the ER, I was less than cooperative when it came time to decide if I needed to go. It was late, I had to sing in the morning…which takes priority, and I had just been in the ER recently and had no desire to go back. So we went home, got my foot propped up. A friend got me some killer pain meds, and I slept through the night. I woke up, still couldn’t walk, couldn’t wear my Easter outfit because without the heels it was just not even worth it, and still had to sing. So with lots of help from Seth and Courtney, I hardly fixed my hair and make up but I got as dressed up as I possibly could have and we headed out the door.
We got some crutches delivered just in time for me to hobble on stage, sit on a stool and sing in front of 1,100 people. The song just happens to be one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to sing and it also happens to be a favorite at our church, so I sing it often. It is very taxing on my vocal chords and singing it standing up with full lung capacity is hard enough… much less sitting down on an uncomfortable stool with a pain pill hang over and a throbbing (and purple) foot. By the grace of God, I got through that song and the special offering song that I had to sing.
My ankle is still very swollen, I still can’t walk, my toes still look like grapes, and it is constantly changing colors like magic. I am being pretty stubborn about going to the Dr, but am thinking that they aren’t going to do anything that I’m not. Unless it needs surgery, and in that case we’ll cross that bridge if it’s still messed up in a week or so.
Oh yeah… and we still have to be out of our house in a week and a half. I managed to get a whopping two boxes packed yesterday while Seth was at the new church working on lighting.
Had I not hurt my foot so badly, I probably wouldn’t have sat down to rest at all during the past few days and would probably be working myself to death between the church launch and us moving. I just might have saved myself some panic and anxiety attacks by doing a goofy ballet move. As much of an inconvenience as it has been, it has forced me to not push it too hard and take it a bit easier.
Being in Texas and spending time with friends and family this time was like a breath of fresh air. As totally drained as I am right now… I would do it all over again… well, after my ankle heals.
